On May 5, 2023, Warsaw became the starting point for a transformative journey toward healthier and more active lifestyles as the kick-off meeting for the HEPALIS Project took place, organized by MOBAD. This ambitious project, titled “Increasing the Physical Activity Levels of Low-Income Sedentary Individuals Under the Guidance of Personal Trainers,” is a collaborative initiative funded by the European Union under the Erasmus+ Programme, bringing together partners from UCAM (Spain), UNEFs (Romania), MindSpin (Cyprus), and Cus Padova (Italy).
What is the HEPALIS Project?
The HEPALIS Project (Health-Enhancing Physical Activity Levels in Society) aims to inspire a movement toward active, healthy living, especially among low-income individuals who often face barriers to participating in sports or physical activities. With a strong emphasis on raising awareness and fostering behavioral changes, HEPALIS aligns with European Union (EU) policy documents and guidelines on promoting health-enhancing physical activity (HEPA).
The project supports EU goals by encouraging increased physical activity and creating accessible opportunities for disadvantaged groups.
Who Does HEPALIS Target?
HEPALIS is committed to supporting low-income individuals, particularly those who are disadvantaged in accessing sports facilities or equipment due to financial constraints. Its direct beneficiaries include:
Low-income migrants and refugees
Home-office employees with limited access to physical activity
University students attending online courses
Older adults with restricted financial means
Physically disabled individuals on low incomes
Housewives with no personal income
By addressing these diverse groups, HEPALIS ensures inclusivity and equality in its mission to promote a healthier society.
Key Outputs of HEPALIS
HEPALIS will deliver several impactful resources to empower its beneficiaries and stakeholders:
Personal Trainer Training Curriculum and Modules: Tailored training for volunteer personal trainers to guide low-income individuals effectively.
Injury Prevention Guide for Non-Athletes: Practical guidelines to ensure safe participation in physical activities.
Gamification-Based Online Platform: A dynamic, interactive system to make physical activity enjoyable and sustainable.
A Collaborative Effort Across Europe
The success of HEPALIS depends on the collaboration of its esteemed partners across Europe. The project’s kick-off meeting in Warsaw marked the beginning of a unified effort to enhance well-being across diverse communities. Through innovative solutions, strong partnerships, and targeted strategies, HEPALIS is poised to make a significant impact on how low-income individuals approach physical activity and health.
